How can I create a computer network on my Linspire 5.0 computer to share files?

Linspire automatically connects you to any computer workgroup it sees across the network that you are connected to.

To enable your computer to share files across the network, please follow the steps below:

  1. Open the file manager, right click on any folder you wish to share across the network, and select Share (Fig. 1).

  2. Click on the Share tab and select Share with other computers in your Network Neighborhood (Fig. 2).

  3. You are now given the option to choose what name you want the folder to be called over the network. Fill in the desired name and hit OK (Fig. 3).

  4. Your computer is now set up to share files.

To view other computers in your network, double-click on the Network Share Manager icon on your desktop to see all the computers.

To learn about file permissions and how to limit access to certain files in a folder, please read this FAQ.

*Note: If you are trying to connect to a Microsoft Windows XP computer and it asks for a username and password when none exist, type in anything into the username field and hit OK and you will be allowed to connect to the computer.
